Things I Like

To better understand how my head works, here are some things I enjoy.

Things I Like on the Internet:

Achewood: http://achewood.com/
The best webcomic. If you try reading the latest comics, you won’t understand. You’ve got to go back to the very beginning and read through. Sort of like how you can’t start at the 1,340th chapter of a book.

The Sports Guy: http://grantland.com/columnists/billsimmons
I like sports, and I like to read about sports sometimes. Bill Simmons’ style and sense of humor clicks with me, and I see a lot of similarities between my writing and his. I’m also a big fan of co-Grantland columnist (and stalwart writer/journalist in his own right), Chuck Klosterman.

Seth Godin: http://sethgodin.typepad.com/
Marketing fascinates me. Godin is the best—he’s very light and fun to read, and always has those intuitive ideas where you think “oh yeah, why doesn’t everyone do that?”

The Internet: (your home page)
It’s fascinating, isn’t it? Here I am, probably watching something asinine on YouTube, and there you are, reading things that come out of my brain. How else could that be possible?

Kevin’s Blog: http://www.thediverseartsproject.com/kevin-leckey.html
A smart, funny, and handsome guy.  And a good friend of mine.  He mostly writes about photography here, which I’m not very good at. But I thought he might appreciate the plug if he ever stumbles across this page.

Eleven Magazine: www.elevenmusicmag.com
Eleven is the magazine I worked for and helped start. It’s also probably the biggest reason why I’m writing things today. I used to have some articles floating around on the site before it was revamped. Luckily I managed to copy/paste my past written works onto this site, which you can read here.

Extra Punctuation: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/extra-punctuation
Yahtzee Croshaw is a video game critic and enthusiast with a terrific knack for pointing out intuitive reasons why the games he plays are terrible—often with an eye for how they might be 1000% better. He’s more widely known across the internets for his video series, Zero Punctuation, which I like too.

Put This On: http://putthison.com/
A smart, well-written guide for young men who want to look good and dress appropriately. Which, I guess, now includes me.

South Park: http://southparkstudios.com
One of the greatest and longest-running shows on television. I’m floored that the SP team has the foresight to realize that much of their audience plans on simply (*borrowing-for-free-without-asking*) episodes from the internet, and consequently put their entire back library up online in high quality with limited commercial interruption. Plus, the social and political commentary is often spot-on.

If you’re a Google Reader / RSS user, here’s a link to A Very Josh Bundle which you can add to your feeds.

Things I Like that I’ve written about:

My 10 Favorite Video Games

My 10 Favorite Movies to Watch on TV

My 10 Favorite Individual TV Episodes

Things I Don’t Like: While I do tend to like most things, I feel that it’s only fair—and perhaps, healthy—that there are a few things I don’t like, too. This list includes (but is not limited to): 3D Glasses (written about), Band of Horses, 30 Rock, artichokes, chopped liver, basketball (written about), salmon, syringes and most other surgical equipment, the NY Rangers and the Boston Red Sox, and medicine-based TV shows.

For me!?!

For me!?!

I’d love a pair of PF Flyers (shoes guaranteed to make a kid run faster and jump higher).  I think I’m a size 10.5. Thanks Mom!!

I’d love to see the Harlem Globetrotters play once.

My travel duffel bag is slowly falling apart. I use this a lot, so it’d be great to have this in tip-top condition. Same goes for my wallet.

Speaking of which, I’m also a really big fan of traveling.  Can you buy credit to be put towards plane tickets? I’d enjoy that.

I think it’d be fun to be able to solve a Rubik’s cube.

I really enjoy GOOD Magazine.  It’d be great if a subscription were mailed to me.

If all else fails, here’s my wishlist on Amazon.

…I’ll leave some more for you as I think of ‘em.
